My friend and I are enlisting in the Army in a month or so (regardless of the answer to this question) but we’re also going on vacation in the summer 2011 to ST. Petersburg in Russia, Moscow, Berlin, and Frankfurt. There are military bases in or near each so we were wondering whether it was possible that we stay on base for a few days and save some cash.

Drill Sergeant CMA asked:

Alright, this is making me mad. We should be at least providing funding or jets or something. When an ally is in trouble, and they helped you (georgia had the 3rd most soldiers in iraq for us), are you not supposed to do something at least? Russia is wiping out our ally and we are just sitting back, congress on vacation and the president just making verbal warnings (not even threats). Anyone know why?
Alright, good, lots and lots of comments. As far as our forces stretched thin, i didnt say send military forces. There are so many other ways of support other than actual ground units. Weapons, ammunition, etc. But another thing is our air force is not stretched thin. Neither is our navy. Gaining air control over Georgia would be easy enough, Russia can not match near the technology we have. Also, to those who take into consideration nukes and ICBMs, you dont understand war. Even though they are available, they would not be used, especially if russia wasnt attacked. If only a defensive role was played, saying we will not allow our ally to be wiped off the face of the earth, we would not be attacked at home. Russia isnt that stupid. Russia would not use a nuke on us, they value life just as we do. Fighting russia would not be like fighting taliban, there are laws of war that powerful countries follow. Even if we are stretched thin, we still have a powerful defence network.
We have over half our soldiers/marines still stateside. We have the majority of our air force still stateside, not really doing anything. Our navy rarely (and with very very few numbers) go into the mideast wars.

Proof here
