My husband is from Russia. I am American. We have a 3 year old son. I’m worried about his childhood and when he gets even older whether or not he’ll be happy at Christmas. My husband is Russian Orthodox. I’m Methodist.
The problem is that for the past 6 years my in-laws, great grandparents, and my sister in law go on a 2 week vacation out of town. Leaving me, my husband, and son behind. They do not celebrate Christmas on DEC 25th. They celebrate Christmas on Jan 7th. Therefore, when my in laws get time off work they take off going to Hilton Head SC or Ocean City, MD. Never inviting us, never any room for us, etc. They think that Dec 25th Christmas is MY CHRISTMAS. BUT it’s actually my husband and son’s Christmas now. Is this going to be a problem for my son?
I’m worried that one year he’ll be sad because his grandparents went on a vacation that he wants to do like say Florida seeing Dolphins. One year my in laws went to Hilton Head SC playing tennis and biking. I’m worried about my son’s happiness in the future when he celebrates American Xmas, his school will have Xmas break on American Xmas, and all his friends will get together with their family.
Russian Xmas is on Jan 7th which falls on a weekday and no one gets time off work. What fun is that for a young boy? When he’s in school he’ll have to go there to have a xmas dinner on a school night…sounds BORING!:(
Btw, I have celebrated with my in laws their xmas on Jan 7th. Yet THEY DO NOT CELEBRATE AMERICAN XMAS!!!!
